Roland DDR-30 Digital Drums Module Demo

Quick demo of an often forgotten Roland digital drum module. With nice & crunchy (I’m guessing 12 bit) PCM samples, Roland entered the electronic drum market with the DDR30. While limited with only kick, snare and 4 toms, the DDR-30 offers several sound samples for each drum (including acoustic, Simmons-style electronic and timpanis) and many options for tailoring the sounds to your needs with pitch, amp envelope & EQ. It can also serve as a pad-to-MIDI converter for triggering other MIDI instrumennts.
In this demo, I go through the 32 drum kits that were stored in this module (not sure if they’re factory kits or not) while being triggered by a rhythm pattern on my Roland Fantom X6. It might be hard to hear on your crap-top speakers, but this module really kicks. I think Infomation Society used one on their eponymous album – I’d have to check my copy of the CD+G that has their equipment list.

Ah I owned this module a few years ago and I really liked the sound of it. With some external fx I used it to create some Dub Reggae beats and I liked the vibe. Perhaps going to buy one again.
